Another lovely delivery arrived the other day, this time of some round lava style bases I’m going to use for my Black Talon elite in Heavy Gear Blitz.
I purchased these from Daemonscape, a wonderful company you’ll probably recognise from my List of 15mm SciFi Stores. I have actually never bought prepainted minis or bases before but I’ll let you in on a secret: while I like painting minis I’ve never really enjoyed painting bases or terrain that much. When I saw the paintjob Daemonscape had done on these new resin bases I really liked the look of them and got in touch privately to purchase some prepainted in that style. I’m very glad I did because they were very affordable indeed and look great.
The regular store entry, here, is for unpainted versions.
So let’s have a look at ’em!

A long while ago my duck brother and I backed the Cool Mini or Not Rising Sun Kickstarter and a not so long time ago all the lovely minis etc arrived. Until now I’d been holding off on painting anything, but my bro inspired me to get cracking so I picked the Komainu, which is pretty much the same as the Chinese Shishi, a sight I was rather fond of when I lived in Shijiazhuang.
Here he is, pictures taken in my newly bought lightbox:
In game he’s a fairly cheap Monster, but can act as a priest to help gain favour from the Kami, so he’s versatile and useful throughout the game.
Just wanted to show off some bits that arrived in the post today.
One order from Russian site Klukva Miniatures, which has really impressed me. I went with the Demon Warrior, Bloody Vampire, and Soul Vampire all in 35mm scale. You may recognise them from their respective games Kingdom Under Fire, Legacy of Kain, and Soul Reaver.
They came packed in a lovely little lasercut box and nicely padded with cotton wool. The detail on the miniatures is superb and they’ve gone through some seriously good QA too – virtually no mold lines or defects of any kind, which is rare for resin miniatures, especially of this level of detail.
Pics and more after the jump.

This weekend my esteemed Brother Duck came to visit. Many games were played and much fun was had. We hadn’t had a chance to hang out in person for a while and it was really nice to just chill and enjoy some gaming.
First my Duck Bro, his girlfriend, and I played the Warhammer Quest Card Game (by Fantasy Flight), which I’m generally very impressed with. It reminds me of Death Angel (also by FF) in that they’ve managed to capture the feel of a specific miniature game very well with just cards in different stacks. It’s quite similar to the LOTR co-op living card game (another FF product) but it’s easier to understand what’s happening and why.
Overall definitely a co-op game I’d recommend. It’s got a fair bit of depth and replayability and it’s pretty cheap too at about £20-£25. Sadly the addon packs are extremely rare and expensive, but it’s a game I could imagine making my own addons for.

Dominions 5: Warriors of the Faith is a 4X game in which you control one of many pretender gods vying to become the new supreme god of a fantasy world, and pitting nations of their worshippers against each other in their attempts to do so. I’ve been a fan of the series since Dominions 3 – Bacon Radar has been for a lot longer – and I definitely recommend it if you enjoy deep and complicated strategy games.

I’ve had some time to go through the loot I picked up from Ludik Bazar’s clearance sale and overall I’m very happy with my Wolfen – they were ridiculously cheap per model (somewhere around 25p or so) and while the mass produced paintjobs aren’t great, they look surprisingly OK from a distance. At least those from the unit boxes do. The models from the army box are much, much worse – effectively they’ve only been primed, albeit in a couple of colours.
I plan on painting up a couple of models in the future to see how I like them, but I mainly got these guys so I’d have a mass of 28mm fantasy miniatures if I ever felt like playing something in that scale/setting – probably a skirmish level game since the scale is much larger than I’m used to.

I made an order on French site Ludik Bazar a little while ago for a whole load of Rackham Confrontation stuff on clearance – deep, deep discounts. It arrived today in a huge box, along with a Heavy Gear Blitz (tactical era) Mammoth Strider.
This is one of the largest parcels I’ve ever received and I’m excited about my loot so I thought I’d share!
