Heavy Gear NuCoal Infantry

Hello! To prove that there are in fact two of us running the blog, I thought it was about time I made a post.

Even though Heavy Gear is mainly a game about giant bipedal mechs, I’m really fond of the infantry in the game. That’s partly because it adds an interesting tactical level but (if I’m honest) mainly because I love contrasts of scale. What’s the point of having giant mechs if you don’t have tiny little soldiers to make them look giant?

Heavy Gear Blitz – Utopian painting

Hello!

I’ve just finished off painting my second full combat group of Utopians for Heavy Gear Blitz – a Fire Support squad. As with all my models their various weapon choices are magnetised so I can field whichever variants I want, but I’ve only painted the one set of weapons for now.

Utopians are a really cool faction in HGB. They come from a world ravaged by weapons they unleashed and live in huge habitats underground. Most of their warfare is conducted by automated drones (N-KIDU) using their own special AI tech, though they have pilots in Armigers (gear sized advanced machines) and APES (large power armour essentially) who direct the drones and do more complex stuff.

Troll Dice Roller for Heavy Gear Blitz

After some recent discussion of how significant various stat increases are in Heavy Gear Blitz I went and made some scripts in Troll Dice Roller.

Troll Dice Roller is an online (and downloadable) application for simulating large numbers of dice rolls in various gaming systems, as well as providing the probability of certain outcomes mathematically rather than by brute force.

You can find it online here: http://topps.diku.dk/torbenm/troll.msp

If you look under the user-contributed rolls, near the bottom, you’ll find two that I wrote, with parts taken and modified from other dice rolling scripts, especially a pre-existing Heavy Gear Blitz one (which is still on the list).

About Heavy Gear Spotlight

The Spotlight series of articles are an in depth look at a specific model (and any variants/options) from a gameplay perspective. Each article outlines the potential uses of the model, why you might want to include it in your army list, and whether there are obvious better choices available.

I’ve chosen to begin with spotlights on Heavy Gear Blitz models because it’s a system I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about and a good amount of time playing and there’s a lack of in-depth resources out there, especially stuff to spark the imaginations of new players.

Heavy Gear Blitz is a 1/144 scale combined arms miniature wargame set in the Heavy Gear sci-fi universe, where 5 metre tall piloted mechs dominate the battlefield.

I previously used the Living Rulebook (LRB) edition of Heavy Gear Blitz by Dream Pod 9, but I am now going back through my previous articles and updating them to reflect the Brigand rules published on this very blog.
