Another lovely delivery arrived the other day, this time of some round lava style bases I’m going to use for my Black Talon elite in Heavy Gear Blitz.
I purchased these from Daemonscape, a wonderful company you’ll probably recognise from my List of 15mm SciFi Stores. I have actually never bought prepainted minis or bases before but I’ll let you in on a secret: while I like painting minis I’ve never really enjoyed painting bases or terrain that much. When I saw the paintjob Daemonscape had done on these new resin bases I really liked the look of them and got in touch privately to purchase some prepainted in that style. I’m very glad I did because they were very affordable indeed and look great.
The regular store entry, here, is for unpainted versions.
Hi everyone. I recently decided to paint some more Heavy Gear models – it had been a while since I did any as a lot of my hobby time has been going on our fan rewrite of the Heavy Gear Blitz Living Rulebook (which is almost ready for release!). I realised I’d never actually painted any ordinary trooper Gears – the basic Hunter, Jager or Chasseur that are meant to be the staple of each Terra Novan force. So to rectify that, here’s a squad of NuCoal Chasseurs.
This weekend my esteemed Brother Duck came to visit. Many games were played and much fun was had. We hadn’t had a chance to hang out in person for a while and it was really nice to just chill and enjoy some gaming.
First my Duck Bro, his girlfriend, and I played the Warhammer Quest Card Game (by Fantasy Flight), which I’m generally very impressed with. It reminds me of Death Angel (also by FF) in that they’ve managed to capture the feel of a specific miniature game very well with just cards in different stacks. It’s quite similar to the LOTR co-op living card game (another FF product) but it’s easier to understand what’s happening and why.
Overall definitely a co-op game I’d recommend. It’s got a fair bit of depth and replayability and it’s pretty cheap too at about £20-£25. Sadly the addon packs are extremely rare and expensive, but it’s a game I could imagine making my own addons for.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a painting update, partly because I haven’t been painting much. A little while ago a cyclist crashed into me (entirely his fault) and I badly broke one finger. Sadly the finger will never work quite as well as before and has to be splinted for a couple of months, which has made many activities quite annoying for me. Happily it was on my off-hand and wasn’t the index finger.
It’s taken me a little while to get used to painting with that annoyance and to generally get back into the habit after a break (hahah).
But I’m very pleased to say I’ve finished painting a model which I started about two years ago and had made a resolution to finish this month; the Drake Gearstrider by Dream Pod 9 (available from Dream Pod 9 if you’re in the New World, or from Shiny Games by request if you’re in the EU).
Another quick post about a mod adding a Warhammer nation to the PC strategy game Dominions 5.
My secret favourite Warhammer faction has always been Chaos Dwarfs, the cult status and often neglected child of the setting, which only ever got one sort of official army book and one sort of complete army book in a very rare supplement (the Tamurkhan book).
I always loved the silly big hatted little blighters though. So I had some fun doing their graphics for the Dominions 5 engine. Here’s a preview of graphics I created for the Chaos Dwarf nation mod. (By the way, the magenta bits are read as shadows by the game engine).
Hey all. Wayland Games recently put their remaining Heavy Gear stuff on clearance (there was hardly anything left) and it was sufficiently cheap (80% off!) that it was worth me getting it even though they weren’t products I was particularly after.
Here’s the haul. 3x two packs of Support Armigers for Utopia and a two pack of upgrade parts for the old Hun model (which is out of print and I do not own).
I already have 2 Support Armigers for my Utopia force and don’t really need any more, but by duck brother has expressed an interest in collecting Utopia, especially with the new kickstarter coming, so I’ll give 2 of the packs to him most likely. The other pack I’ll probably just use for parts. Maybe even to make some little tanks and drones for a different force or scale.
The custom Hun parts I will also be using just as ‘bits’ to customise stuff. I don’t think they’ll fit the new model Hun, but I might give it a try and see.
